The Buddy Walk is one of DSACO's most important events of the year. About 2,000 people from the Oklahoma City area and around the state walk to promote awareness for all people with Down syndrome. In addition, we raise funds to help support research, education and advocacy efforts.
The Buddy Walk® was created by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) in 1995 to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. The Buddy Walk has grown from 17 walks in 1995 to nearly 300 walks planned for 2010 worldwide. In 2009, more than $9.5 million was raised nationwide to benefit local programs and services, as well as the national advocacy initiatives of NDSS that benefit all individuals with Down syndrome.
DSACO is currently looking for event sponsorship. If you or anyone you know would be interested in sponsoring our event, please send an inquiry to Ellen Adams at buddywalk@dsaco.org and you will receive a sponsorship proposal.
Any groups or individuals interested in volunteering for the event should send an inquiry to Sarah Soell at volunteers-buddywalk@dsaco.org and you will be contacted for more information.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday, September 25, 2010!
