DOWN SYNDROME FESTIVAL & 5K
The Festival & 5K is the major, annual fundraising event for the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma. Funds raised help the organization accomplish its goals through programs such as microwave-based cooking classes for teens and adults with Down syndrome, a computer lab and tutoring center, distribution of new parent packets, quarterly workshops, parent to parent support meetings and scholarships to the National Down Syndrome Congress annual convention. All money raised stays in the central Oklahoma area to fund the various activities and programs supported by DSACO.
2017 marked the 23rd annual event. The day begins each year with a 5K at 8 a.m. The 5K is followed by an Awareness Walk through Bricktown where family teams walk in celebration of their loved ones with Down syndrome. The final event of the day is the Festival, which is held inside the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Festival is free and open to the public, and includes a petting zoo, carnival games, moon bounces, face painting and more.
