VOLUNTEERING PROCESS and VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

DSACO has a consistent need for volunteers throughout the week and we love new faces! The process of becoming a volunteer is as follows:

1- Choose which DSACO program or event works best with your schedule and sign up!

Fall Basketball Clinic:

Join us for DSACO’s first Fall Basketball Clinic with Coach Jerry! Volunteers don’t need to have basketball skills, but just need to know how to have fun! We need 10-20 volunteers each session to help make the clinic a success!

Kylee’s Kitchen:

DSACO offers a microwave based cooking class for teens and adults with Down syndrome. The class is meant to teach and encourage independent living skills while having fun alongside new and old friends. Volunteers will be paired up one-on-one to help the participants complete the week’s recipe. This is an extremely fun and rewarding opportunity and the participants LOVE hanging out and cooking alongside their friends!

Tutoring:

DSACO has hired a Special Education teacher to prepare a lesson plan but the tutor will need several volunteers to serve as tutoring aids. Tutoring aids are not required to have a background in teaching, but rather a willing attitude and fun countenance.

DSACO Fitness Class:

DSACO has joined forces with personal trainer and strength and conditioning expert, Luke Larson, to offer fitness classes! The first 30 minutes of the class will be fitness and the last 30 minutes will be ZUMBA! We ask that volunteers come ready to work out, have a good time and ensure that each participant remains safe and encouraged throughout the workout!

Speech Therapy:

DSACO is excited to offer FREE speech therapy to children (ages 18 months+) and teens with Down syndrome. Volunteers will serve as aids to our therapist and will be utilized as one-on-one volunteers with each child/ teen who signs up! There is no prior training required for volunteers, so please do not hesitate to attend if this is your first time!

2- Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your designated volunteer shift so we can input your information into our volunteer database, have you fill out a volunteer application, get to know you and field any additional questions you may have! You can download a volunteer application here.

We ask that if you need to change or cancel a sign-up that you do so 24-72 hours in advance so we can find a replacement volunteer. We are extremely excited about working alongside you and if you have any additional questions, please email hannah@dsaco.org or call 405-600-9981.
