Free Tutoring Program

The DSACO Tutoring Program provides free, individualized academic support for individuals with Down syndrome ages 3 and older. This program is designed to strengthen foundational skills, support school success, and build confidence in a positive and encouraging environment.

Sessions are led by Bettie Shadoan, a retired special education teacher with years of experience working with students of all abilities. Bettie tailors each session to meet the unique needs of every learner, focusing on areas such as early literacy, math, communication, and life skills.

Whether your child is just beginning their learning journey or needs extra support with schoolwork, DSACO’s Tutoring Program offers personalized instruction to help each participant reach their full potential—at no cost to families.

"The main focus is on reading and decoding skills, but Mrs. Bettie goes far beyond just academics. She incorporates games and activities that help Alissa with turn-taking, good sportsmanship, and positive communication. It’s a whole-child approach — working on both her learning skills and her personal growth at the same time."
