Self-Adovcate Spotlight on Trafford Gould: Building Inclusive Workplaces, One Afternoon at a Time

For Trafford Gould, a job isn’t just a task list—it’s a chance to shine.

Since October 2023, Trafford has been working part-time at White Oaks Vet Clinic in Edmond, Oklahoma—a place that holds nearly three decades of memories for the Gould family. For 28 years, they’ve brought their pets to the clinic for checkups, with Trafford often by their side. Now, he’s not just a visitor—he’s a valued part of the team.

It all started when Dr. Jennifer Bianchi, who had come to know Trafford and his family over the years, saw an opportunity. Knowing Trafford’s strengths—his self-motivation, attention to detail, and upbeat spirit—she invited him to join the clinic a few afternoons a week. Trafford was thrilled to accept.

In his role, Trafford handles a variety of important tasks: he assists with final cleanings in the surgery room, cleans kennels, breaks down boxes, takes out trash, and vacuums the lobby. He works hard—and it shows.

But it’s not just about the chores. Trafford brings something extra to work each day: a contagious sense of humor and positive attitude that lift the entire team.

“Trafford is self-motivated and task-oriented, so when Dr. Jennifer Bianchi asked if he might be available to work a couple afternoons a week, he was excited to join their team,” said his mom, Cindy Gould. “He brings his sense of humor and positivity to work, and his coworkers have been so supportive of Trafford being successful.”

And of course, there’s a special perk—animals. From day one, Trafford has loved getting to interact with the dogs and cats that come through the clinic doors. It’s a bonus that brings joy to his routine and makes each day a little brighter.

Trafford’s story is more than a personal milestone. It’s a powerful example of what can happen when a community embraces inclusive employment—and when an individual with Down syndrome is given the space and support to contribute in meaningful ways.

At White Oaks Vet Clinic, Trafford isn’t just “helping out.” He’s working with purpose, building relationships, and proving—every day—that individuals with Down syndrome belong in the workforce.
